New residence for a family, facing out to Fannie Bay in Darwin.
OverviewThis house attempts to redefine the creation of tropical architecture within the Northern Territory. It is a large house of nearly 1000 sqm. This creates a deep floor plate centred around a central, 2 storey living room void which opens to the rear pool. The upstairs living, kitchen and dining are afforded extensive views over Fannie Bay. The house is designed to fully open during the dry season, cooled by local breezes and flow-through ventilation. The house is then closed and mechanically conditioned through the wet season. The concrete and masonry construction was chosen to support this strategy combined with high-performance glazing. The house can either be open and breathe, or closed and highly insulated.
